Hotel:
Mendoza
We are securing a great block of rooms at an nice 3.5 star place (and very reasonably priced).
http://www.argentino-hotel.com/
These rooms are priced between $90 / night and $135 / night. Annie and I will be here, and let us know if you are interested in reserving a room.
Other options are the two 4 star hotels in Mendoza (The Diplomatic and Hyatt) which range from $150 - $200 / night. Though it is less new than the Diplomatic, we would recommend the Hyatt based on location near the main square, theater and great restaurants, and the Argentino hotel where many folks will be staying!
- Cost: Typical roundtrip flights from the U.S. run between $1,100 and $1,500 depending on your plans and dates. Our recent trip in April 2012 was $1,200 on LAN airlines and included multiple destinations (Santiago, Mendoza and Buenos Aires).
- Airlines: We really liked LAN, as they are a One World airline partner (which includes American Airlines) and their baggage policies were very good.. The typical connection points from the U.S. that we've seen are Miami or Lima, Peru.
- Need help? Let us know. We are working with a travel agent for our flights, and they are of course happy to help other guests as well. Please let us know if you'd like to work with them as well since they are familiar with the dates and plans.

Buenos Aires
A city of 18 million people, there are many areas of town and interesting neighborhoods in BA.
That said, we very much recommend staying either in Palermo Soho or Palermo Hollywood (neighboring "barrios", aka districts). There's access to great food, shopping, nightlife and its still more local than touristy. Taxis are easy to grab to the other parts of town, or if you are up for a walk, the city is flat and you can get to most places in 45 minutes.
Between the two, Palermo Soho is the shopping district, has a bigger bar scene at night and good brunch options, and Palermo Hollywood is a (little) quieter, has a few more trendy new restaurants and also has some cool nightlife of its own. But they literally border each other.
